Brinton R. Burbidge – Attorney at Law

Brinton R. Burbidge is a 1975 graduate of the University of Utah. He has an undergraduate degree with honors in economics. During his legal education, Mr. Burbidge worked as an investigator in the White Collar Crime Unit, as well as Chief Clerk at the Utah State Attorney General’s Office. Following his graduation from law school, Mr. Burbidge took a position as an Assistant Attorney General with the State of Utah. He was assigned to advise the Utah State Tax Commission, as well as the Public Service Commission. Thereafter, Mr. Burbidge took a position as Associate General Counsel at the University of Utah, where he had an opportunity to work closely with his law school professor and then Executive Vice-President, Arvo VanAlstyne. In that capacity, Mr. Burbidge advised the University on employment law issues, tax issues, contract issues, tort law issues and medical malpractice issues. He also served as General Counsel to Weber State College, now Weber State University, and in that capacity was a member of President Rodney H. Brady’s administrative team. Mr. Burbidge concluded his higher education/public work as General Counsel, Assistant to the President and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Business at Utah State University.

Mr. Burbidge entered private practice in 1980 and continues to represent clients in areas of medical malpractice and hospital law, education law, employment law, and commercial law. He was one of nineteen attorneys nationwide appointed to serve as a member of the United States Department of Education Appeals Board. This occurred in 1981 and his term expired in 1986. During that work, Mr. Burbidge oversaw administrative reviews of contract compliance by federal contractors with the Department of Education. In 1997, he was chairman of the State of Utah’s Celebration of the Bicentennial of the United States Constitution. In 2000, he was invited to participate in an international education workshop at Oxford University. Mr. Burbidge is a regular participant in Boston University School of Medicine’s Annual Conference on Obstetrics, Gynecology, Perinatal Medicine, and the Law. He has extensive experience in the area of complex medical malpractice, tort, commercial, education and employment litigation. He has received an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Burbidge was president of his former law firm and is a founding member and is the managing partner of Burbidge & White, L.L.C.
